At Gracie Jiu Jitsu Eugene, we believe Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is for EVERYONE, regardless of age, gender, athleticism, or ability. We are proud to say we are continuing the legacy of Grandmaster Hélio Gracie who believed jiu-jitsu should empower the weak to be able to defend against the strong. This is why we offer structured martial arts curriculums specific to the self-defense needs for any demographic or skill level, with programs created for beginner adults, women, and children.

OUR MISSION

The mission of MMA is to spread Jeet Kune Do, Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Filipino Martial Arts in order to:

  • Preserve and perpetuate the self defense system of Gracie Jiu Jitsu as taught by Grand Master Helio Gracie and handed to us by Rorion, Ryron and Rener Gracie.

  • Preserve and perpetuate the martial art and philosophical teachings of the founder of Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee.

  • Preserve and perpetuate the Jeet Kune Do Concepts and Filipino Martial Arts as taught by Guro Dan Inosanto.

Adam has been coaching athletes for over 30 years in a variety of sports and youth programs. He was first introduced to Gracie Jiu Jitsu and JKD in the early 1990s, but at the time martial arts was more of a hobby. After finishing his college basketball career, he started training formally at Fairtex, the world-renowned Muay Thai School in San Francisco (1997). In 2000, he further expanded his martial arts training by starting his JKD instructorship training with Sifu Tom Cruse. Adam earned his Senior Instructorship in JKD/Kali under Tom Cruse/Paul Vunak while training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Wellington Dias Affiliation. With a strong passion for training youth, Adam soon realized the value in opening a school that would combine the unique and contemporary styles of Gracie Jiu Jitsu and JKD, and thus created McKenzie Martial Arts. Since it’s opening, Adam became the 1st Certified Gracie Instructor® in the Pacific Northwest and was the first martial arts instructor ever to be honored as one of the “Top 20 under 40 rising stars in business” in Lane County. In addition to running his own school, Adam is also the Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Jeet Kune Do instructor at the University of Oregon. Adam is the Official Representative for Gracie Jiu Jitsu Eugene under Gracie University Headquarters® Coach Adam is a Certified Gracie Survival Tactics® Instructor under Rener and Ryron Gracie and the official representative for local Law Enforcement Agencies. Coach Adam has had the honor of earning a Purple Belt from Wellington “Megaton” Dias in 8 years, before putting the white belt back on and earning another Purple belt from Rener and Ryron Gracie. Adam has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Jeet Kune Do for 25 years and continues to train and research the amazing world of martial arts and self defense.

Coach Shannon has been one of the most dedicated students to ever walk through the doors of McKenzie Martial Arts/Gracie Jiu Jitsu Eugene. Shannon began her journey in 2012 teaching Cardio Kickboxing. Over the years she has become the highest ranked student in the JKD/Kali Program, Purple Belt from Gracie University, and has earned the rank of Coach and Assistant Instructor for the Combative Fighting Concepts organization.

She has had the honor of training at the Headquarters for Gracie University and becoming a Certified Women Empowered Instructor and Gracie Combatives Instructor under Coach Adam. In 2020 she became the first female to be a Certified Women Empowered and Gracie Combatives Inst. in the state of Oregon. Shannon is also one of 2 Managers at MMA and has been instrumental in the success of our school. Coach Shannon is also a Head Instructor for our Gracie Bully Proof Program. She works with all ages including our Black Belt Club.

Coach Mustafa

Coach Mustafa is one of the longest running students at McKenzie Martial Arts. He has been a key contributor to the development of the Combative Fighting Concepts curriculum. Coach Mustafa began hs journey in 2010 and has earned an impressive resume along the way. Mustafa has been certified in Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) and has been an amazing mentor to our local Law Enforcement agencies. Mustafa has a law degree and is currently a Federal Judge. His knowledge has been a great contribution to our program and our entire community.

Carrie has been an active athlete all her life, but discovered Gracie Jiu Jitsu only after her kids enrolled in the Jr. Grapplers program.  She quickly became a regular in our Women Empowered and Gracie Combatives programs, and also began assisting in our kids program. Carrie worked as a grief counselor at a women’s crisis center for a number of years.  

She believes GJJ is the perfect blend of her love for athletics and her love for helping people: body, mind, and soul.  Carrie has had the privilege of training at GU headquarters, where she earned her Women Empowered Instructor Certification and Gracie Jiu Jitsu Instructor Certification. She has become the 2nd woman to earn Instructorship in Women Empowered and Gracie Combatives in the state of Oregon (only behind our very own Coach Shannon). Carrie has the perfect hard work ethic along with a love for the art that has been a great addition to our Gracie Jiu Jitsu Eugene team.

Some of our features that set us apart from your average martial arts school/dojo:
